What is IELTS Writing task 2?

IELTS writing has two tasks in which 2nd one is a formal essay. That means your essay should not sound like your own blog with cheesy lines and decorative idioms. Examiner looks for a more formal way of presentation. And another difference between IELTS writing task 1 and 2 are the word counts. The minimum word count for task 1 is 150 words whereas, for task 2, the minimum word count is 250 words. There is no maximum limit for either task.

How to Write an Effective Introduction in IELTS Writing Task 2?

The introduction in IELTS writing task 2 has only two main points to mention. One is the thesis and another one is the background statement. The thesis statement is the paraphrase of the essay and the background statement is the supporting point for your entire essay. This kind of presentation will boost your IELTS writing score.

5 Best Tips to Write a Good Introduction in IELTS Writing Task 2

1.      Analyze the Question

Before jumping into penning your essay, analyze the question and plan what you need to write. Have an opinion on the argument given and choose the best supporting points with examples. A simple way of introduction will not boost your IELTS Score.

2.      Give Straight Forward Answer

The introduction part structure should have a thesis and a background statement. Along with that, a scoring point will be a straightforward answer to the question. And then write the outline of the explanation in your essay.

3.      The Outline of the Essay is a Must

Most people forget this part which leads to the loss of some easy points in the IELTS writing section. Rather than being fancy with your introduction, it is better to choose the typical and rich words in your introduction. Just give a glance at our essay with one or two sentences as the outline.

4.      Boring is Better

As IELTS writing task 2 is a formal essay, you will be expected to write more formally. Even though you can present it with cheesy words and make it interesting, it won’t work out. So better write it boring with good vocabulary. This will create a good first impression on your essay.

5.      Length of the Introduction

Never take it long with the introduction. Considering both time and energy wastages, limit it to 45 to 60 words. Cover the paraphrase, outline, and background statement in these 45-60 words. Even a little more is not a problem as there is no restriction for that.
