1.      Based on Application Deadline

The universities release date or deadline to apply. Make sure you take at least 3 months to prepare for GRE test. It is not a healthy practice to wait until the last moment to take the test. And give a minimum of 4 months for preparation. So in total, you should start the GRE preparation eight months before admissions.

Why 8 months? If you have 8 months, you can prepare for the GRE test properly. Even if your score is not satisfying, there will be time to re-take the GRE test.

2.      Make sure you can have time to prepare for the GRE:

To prepare for a test like GRE, you need ample time and dedication. So make sure you are ready with time and resources. If you are in a situation where you need to work more and have less time to prepare or any family disturbances where you can least concentrate, it is better to postpone the test.

3.      Make sure of the finances:

Deciding on taking GRE means planning to go abroad for education which is interlink with your finances. So it is better to plan your finances and then decide.

4.      Check whether you are ready to go to Grad School

This parameter is also important. Because most of the seniors choose to take some time before they go for a Masters. Better to think about future goals before grad school rather than after grad school. Meanwhile, you can find your other interests too. So take your time and set your goal.

5.      When to take the GRE test for Fall Admission?

If you plan for fall admissions, take the GRE test in September or October of the previous year.

6.      When to take the GRE test for Spring Admission?

If you plan for spring admissions, take the GRE test in January – February of the previous year.

7.      How much time will it take to get GRE score?

It will take 10-15 days to get a GRE scorecard. Even though it takes just 15 days, it may take approximately 3 weeks for the GRE score to reach the University mails. And it may take another week to reach the respective department officials. So as per these timelines, plan to get a Good GRE score to get into Top Universities .
