How to Manage Your Time in SAT Exam – 5 Expert Tips

Preparing for the test is not just enough to have a good SAT score, one should know how to utilize their time and give their best. SAT is three hours and forty-five minutes long test with 154 questions plus an optional essay. So these 225 minutes seem to be insufficient while writing the exam, leading the test takers to ramble at the end.

1.      Have a watch:

Better, it is an analog watch. Always have an eye on the clock so that you can increase your pace if you want or you can maintain it you are on track.

2.      Have an idea of the SAT Exam pattern

Planning a strategy without any information is a foolish act. You should know what you are going to face soon so that you can be prepared. Here is a quick overview of the SAT exam pattern

·      Writing Section – 25 minutes with 35 questions & 10 minutes with 14 questions

·         Critical reading – 45 minutes with 44 questions

·         Math section - 80 minutes with 58 questions

·         Experimental – 25 minutes

3.       It is okay to Skip:

You should know which question to be skipped and which can be solved easily. If the question is taking more time than you plan, be brave to skip it and come back later to answer it. At the same time, never spend the same amount of time on each question. Pick your time limit wisely.

4.       Don’t be afraid to guess:

SAT exams do not have negative scoring. So if you have absolutely no idea about what the answer is or how to solve it, better not to waste the time on it. So simply guess it. Nothing worse can happen with guessing.

5.      Highlight the key points

Reading comprehension is one of the most time-consuming sections of the SAT. So make sure you are spending minimal time on it by following some important tips to ace reading comprehension passages in SAT.

And make sure to highlight the keywords while reading the passage. This can save a lot of time while answering the questions by eliminating the time to search for that particular line in that lengthy passage.
