IELTS Reading Question Types

IELTS Reading section is a 1-hour test with 40 questions divided into three distinct passages. Each passage will have 3-4 or 4-5 questions. Each question tests different skills, which means the candidates need to master everything to get a good score in the IELTS Reading section

The types of questions in the reading section you might encounter when taking your IELTS test are listed below. 

1.     Compare the headings in IELTS: 

This type of question includes paragraphs and headings. All you need to do is check and match the paragraph to the appropriate heading.

2.     It's True, False, Not given questions in IELTS:

In this kind of question, a passage will be given followed by some statements which should be determined whether it is true, false, or not given. If the statement is correct as per the passage, it is true. If not correct but in the passage, it is false. If not correct and not in the passage, it is not given. 3.     Summary completion questions in IELTS:

These questions are about summarizing the given passage. Make sure to use the words used in the passage. For example, if you locate the word "invite" in the passage and you have to utilize its form as an invitation or invite, then it is ok.

4.     Sentence Completion Questions in IELTS:

End sentences by completing the gap with passage words. This is similar to sentence completions in other tests.

5.     MCQ ( Multiple Choice Questions) in IELTS:

Select from 3 or 4 possible options the correct answer to the question given from the passage. Sometimes you may face single-answer multiple-choice questions also.

6.     Labeling Diagram Questions in IELTS:

 You may get a question when you are asked to mark a diagram in the IELTS reading test. In this kind of question, an infographic should be completed based on the data given.

7.     Matching Information to Paragraphs Questions in IELTS:

You are asked to match declarations to paragraphs in the reading passage in this type of question.
